The Wide Bay Greens have organised a demonstration in Maryborough to
bring home the health and environmental hazards of the proposed Colton
Mine for Hervey Bay and the Maryborough District.
The Greens have been working with the Aldershot community through AADAM and the Wide Bay Conservation Council to ensure that the mine does not go ahead.
The Greens' candidate, Jim McDonald, said that his party has strongly supported the efforts of the community in opposing the mine, with such high health and environmental risks, so close to Aldershot and Maryborough. He said the Member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss, and the Nationals, had by his silence, supported the mine.
