It’s time to wind back the clock and learn more about the Sunshine Coast’s pioneering history during Discovery Weekend on Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27.

Supported by the Cultural Heritage Levy, and as a part of Horizon Festival, planes, trains, a lighthouse, museums, historic houses and a range of venues across the Sunshine Coast will open their doors in celebration of our unique heritage.

Arts and Heritage Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said there was so much for visitors and residents to explore during Discovery Weekend.

“With fantastic vintage collections, heritage-listed buildings, tours, talks and entertainment planned, it will be a fantastic weekend of discovery,” Cr Baberowski said.

“Council’s heritage-listed Bankfoot House, the oldest known surviving residence in the Glass House Mountains district, is just one of the many places open during Discovery Weekend.

“Bankfoot House was a family home and the original post office and stopover for travellers and crew of Cobb & Co until 1879, it also houses a substantial collection of memorabilia, with many items more than 100-years-old.

“With grassy areas to sit and relax, Bankfoot House is the ideal place for a picnic while taking in the breathtaking views of Mt Tibrogargan.

“I encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the vast heritage our region has to offer.”
