Micro-chipping is the most effective way to identify and reunite lost pets with their owners.
And to assist pet owners to be responsible a significantly discounted micro-chipping day for cats and dogs for only $20 will occur on Sunday 29 September from 10am to 1pm at Buderim Dog Park as part of the park’s 10th birthday celebration.
Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said for owners who needed even more incentive – as well as the cut price micro-chipping deal – there would be much to enjoy at the Buderim Dog Park event on Syd Lingard Drive, Buderim.
“The Sunshine Coast Pet Partnership Group* is pleased to support Buderim War Memorial Community to throw a fun party for all the family, especially the four-legged members, as part of Buderim Dog Park’s 10 year anniversary celebration,” Cr Dickson said.
“At the event there will be discounted micro-chipping available for cats and dogs for just $20, which is a huge saving, and I hope pet owners who have been putting off micro-chipping will take up this excellent offer.
“Plus throughout the day there will be agility and obedience demonstrations, pet and owner look-a-like competitions and prizes, as well as community and food stalls, kids’ activities and discounted dog washes.”
All dogs must be on a leash on the day, and the small dog park area will be open for off-leash exercise. Cats must be in cages and there will be a separate enclosed mobile facility for the cat micro-chipping.
Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said council encourages owners to microchip cats and dogs regardless of age.
“A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice. It is electronically imprinted with a unique and unalterable code,” Cr McKay said.
“This tiny chip allows a lost animal to be identified more easily and quickly be back home safely.
“Registration fees are greatly reduced for de-sexed and micro-chipped dogs in order to reward responsible owners.
“It is also a requirement under the Animal Management Act 2008 to microchip your animal before it reaches 12 weeks of age or if ownership changes.”
