Tens of thousands of Queenslanders will be helping Guide Dogs Queensland 'yelp for help' during this year's annual Doorknock Appeal from 1st - 14th March in an effort to raise more than $300,000 to help breed and train 12 Guide Dogs.

Volunteers across the state will be doorknocking far and wide during the next two weeks to help raise these vital funds and assist the Association provide its much needed services free of charge to blind and vision impaired Queenslanders.

High school students, service club members and other supportive members of the community will be out and about in some of the most unlikely of places during the Doorknock.

Guide Dogs Queensland Fundraising Manager Karen Furnivall said this year's Appeal is all about flexibility for Doorknock volunteers and wasn't confined to the traditional approach of doorknocking local streets.

"This year we have volunteers doorknocking their office block, taking up collections among family and friends, out and about in malls as well as in their local street," Karen said.

"We receive less than 3 per cent government funding, none of which goes towards our Guide Dog breeding, training and placement, so we rely solely on the generosity of the community during fundraising events such as the Doorknock to help fund these services.

"We're asking everyone in Queensland to dig deep when a Guide Dogs Queensland volunteer knocks on their door - every donation makes a big difference.

"It costs more than $25,000 to breed and train a Guide Dog, the dogs and associated support services are provided free of charge to blind and vision impaired Queenslanders and to these people the rewards are priceless."

Karen also urged the public to take precautions and only donate to authorised volunteers distinguishable by wearing a badge containing the collector's name and ID number.

Volunteers are still needed to help out in all areas of the State. If you can spare a few hours of your time to Doorknock please Freecall: 1800 810 119.
