Shoreline's Natural Beauty inspires new exhibition by Sunshine Coast Artist.
An exhibition of mixed media paintings inspired by Sunshine Coast beaches and painted by local artist and teacher Virginia Luhrs will be displayed at the Noosa Regional Gallery from the 2nd of April to the 14th of April.
The exhibition is entitled "Drift" and combines paint and natural forms such as pebbles, shells and coral fragments. The artist seeks to explore the ever-changing natural patterns occurring at the waters edge.
Drifting along beaches and riverbanks, Virginia is always fascinated by the detail in the sand, which she sees as nature's canvas. The patterns of tiny sand balls left behind by the crabs…. the individual colours, the textures of shells, coral, pebbles and the lines left on the sand by the drifting tides - are all beautiful elements of natures design. Virginia's paintings seek to capture the moment when water mingles with these elements, either trickling with a gentle playfulness or with a flowing motion removing the design entirely. Nothing stays the same. It is this lack of permanency that makes it precious - " I am seeking to connect the observer with their own memories of drifting along the beach". Virginia uses real mementos from the beach to assist in establishing authenticity to these memories.
Virginia Luhrs has lived and taught at the Sunshine Coast for the last ten years and lives at Peregian Beach. She has a family background of fishing and surfing so the beach has always been an integral part of her life. Virginia and her husband both teach at Noosaville State Primary School. They have two children, Cecilia (6) and Angus (3).
