Struth - the Ettamogah Pub is turning 18!
It's been a long time coming but the quirky Ettamogah Pub will be of legal drinking age later this month.
To celebrate the auspicious occasion the Ettamogah Pub is having a massive 18th birthday party on Friday 30th November from 5pm. There'll be plenty of action with a record number of Goose Club prizes, Sunshine Coast favourite Charlie Bob Nelson and his band will be performing live, and chefs will be cooking on BBQ's out the front of the Pub.
The Ettamogah Pub has seen a lot of changes over the past 18 years. What started out as a roadside stop for weary travelers has developed into a first class establishment that appeals to locals and tourists alike. As well as being a great drinking hole the Ettamogah Pub is a very unique venue for lunch, dinner and functions. Based around the typical Aussie theme the Ettamogah Pub, and Bluey's Bar & Grill located upstairs, creates a humorous and relaxed atmosphere for parties, conferences and weddings.
"We're entering our Christmas party season and we're booked heavily throughout December. Most of our groups come back year after year because they're so happy with our service and individuality," said Sue Battams Aussie World Sales Manager.
The Ettamogah Pub welcomes visitors from across the globe but is especially proud to be of service to the local Sunshine Coast community.
"Over the years we've developed a very strong and loyal customer base. We have locals who come here every Friday night for the entertainment or to have a great meal in our bar & grill upstairs. For our 18th birthday we invite all Sunshine Coast locals to join us - it'll be a night to remember," said Peter Raymond Ettamogah Pub Manager.
ETTAMOGAH PUB BACKGROUND HISTORY
The original creator of the Ettamogah Pub was Ken Maynard who started drawing the Pub in 1959. It was made famous through his regular cartoons in The Australasian Post and you'll find his distinctive cartoons hanging around the walls of the Pub. These cartoons epitomise the larrikin humour of everyday Aussie life.
The Ettamogah Pub, centrally located on the Bruce Highway at Palmview on the Sunshine Coast, is a replica of the cartoon that appeared in the Australasian Post for over forty years from 1959. It was built over a 9 month period way back in November 1989. With bushland surroundings it was, and still is, the perfect location for a great Aussie pub with a laidback atmosphere.
Ettamogah is an Aboriginal word meaning "a place of good drink" and that's exactly what the Pub is. It's also one of Queensland's leading tourist attractions standing at a lofty 18m in height.
Quirky facts about the Pub include the rustic hand-made black butt gum furniture inside the Pub - the wood is from the trees that were cleared from the site. Over 200 tonne of steel is in the framework and the truck on top of the Pub is a 1927 Chevy from a property in Roma. It was restored, painted and delicately lifted into place by a crane to the top of the Pub. The 'other' story about the Chevy is that it was washed up on the roof in a flood and none of regular bar flies could be bothered to get it down - your choice as to what version you believe!
