Local chefs dish out their secrets at Eumundi Food Fest

This Sunday 27 June sees the 2010 Eumundi Food Fest, taking place from 10am -- 3pm, with some of the finest local chefs and foodies sharing their expertise.

Eumundi Food Fest Coordinator Trent Harvison says the cooking demonstrations are designed to help even the most beginner cook learn some tricks of the trade.

"The chefs are creating restaurant quality meals that you can easily replicate in your own home," says Trent. "And wherever possible, the demonstrations will use locally sourced ingredients, many sourced from the producers at the Eumundi Food Fest and Eumundi Markets".

The demonstrations are as follows:

10.30am          Asian Street Food -- Chefs Sophie Brown & Leigh Darlington
-- 11.15am       Cooking: Fish Amok -- Traditional Cambodian Khmer Curry

Sophie and Leigh are renowned for their business Asian Street Food -- at Eumundi Markets every Wednesday and Saturday. Sophie earned her stripes as a chef at The Spirit House in Yandina and Leigh at Sails in Noosa, and their extensive travels ignited their passion for South-East Asian fare.

11.30am          Food@Eumundi -- Head Chef Scott Hardy
-- 12.15pm       Cooking: Tempura of local white fish, chilli/lime ginger caramel and petite Asian salad
AND Hervey Bay scallops on potato croquettes, bulls blood leaf and green oil

Scott and his wife Jess run Food@Eumundi, and were finalists in the 2010 Country Style Country Chef of the Year Awards (only five finalists in Qld). Scott has worked in a host of fine hotels and restaurants in Australia and the UK, including The Oak Room at Danesfield House, and The Riverside, as well as the Sofitel, Hilton, Hyatt, Jupiter's International and Intercontinental hotels.

12.30pm          Azzurro Restaurant -- Head Chef Aden Moriarty
-- 1.15pm         Cooking: African Eggs -- Poached eggs rolled in dukkah with grilled asparagus and chilli jam on grilled ciabatta

Aden's experience as a chef has seen him traverse the globe cooking up a storm wherever he goes -- from his homeland New Zealand (he started in the kitchen at Saffron), to the Caribbean, and now Australia. This dish was inspired by his travels through Africa.

1.30pm            Red Dog Coffee Traders -- Barista Kai Gerschau
-- 2.15pm         Coffee-making masterclass -- getting the most from your espresso machine, different beans and the secret to a great cup of coffee

Kai is one of the Sunshine Coast's most accomplished baristas. He has been in the coffee game for the last 14 years -- first with Segafredo and then Toby's Estate in Sydney, and for the last three years here on the Sunshine Coast. Aside from distributing Toby's Estate Coffee throughout Queensland, Kai offers barista training to cafes and restaurants, and sells commercial and domestic coffee machines.

An additional demonstration stage will focus on alternative and sustainable produce and cooking practices.

When it comes to cuisine to devour on the day, visitors will be able to explore the delights of over 70 stalls, featuring tasty morsels from the Sunshine Coast and hinterland's premier producers and growers.

The Noosa Beach Classic Car Club will also be hosting their 'Show and Shine' display -- an impressive gathering of sparkling classic motor vehicles. There will also be a number of rides and amusements.

The Eumundi Food Fest is an initiative of the Eumundi Chamber of Commerce.

Eumundi Food Fest Sunday 27 June 2010

Lovers of good food and fabulous fresh produce, eager cooks and budding chefs are in for treat with the upcoming 2010 Eumundi Food Fest, taking place from 10am -- 3pm on Sunday 27 June.

Part of the Noosalongweekend 10 day cultural event, the Eumundi Food Fest (now in its eighth year) brings together local producers, growers, chefs, restaurateurs, entertainers and food lovers with a host of activities and entertainment throughout the day.

Eumundi Food Fest Coordinator Trent Harvison says Eumundi's village atmosphere is the ideal setting for an event that has become a "must do" for local foodies.

"The Tucker Tent will be the place to enjoy all sorts of foodie fun -- with cooking presentations and demonstrations throughout the day taking place in a state-of-the-art stainless steel kitchen," Trent says.

"Demonstrations by local restaurants and providores will take visitors on a journey through the wonderful produce available on the Sunshine Coast," he says.

"It's a great chance for most of us novice cooks to learn from the experts, pick up some great new tricks and recipes, and then head home armed with produce to get cooking!"

An additional demonstration stage will focus on alternative and sustainable produce and cooking practices. This area will also have an emphasis on education and instruction.

When it comes to cuisine to devour on the day, visitors will be able to explore the delights of over 70 stalls, featuring tasty morsels from the Sunshine Coast and hinterland's premier producers and growers.

"This year also see the introduction of tasting plates, where stalls will offer a sample of their tasty treats for $5," says Trent. The smaller portion options will make it easier for visitors to graze their way around.

"It's an ideal setting to design your own gourmet picnic from the stalls around, then sit back, relax and listen to local musicians while sipping a quality Sunshine Coast wine"

The Noosa Beach Classic Car Club will also be hosting their 'Show and Shine' display -- an impressive gathering of sparkling classic motor vehicles. Situated right in the middle of the Food Fest, the display will provide scores of delicious cars to drool over.  There will also be a number of rides and amusements.

A truly great day out in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, the Eumundi Food Fest is an event not to be missed. The Eumundi Food Fest is an initiative of the Eumundi Chamber of Commerce.
