As part of Caloundra Arts Centre Associations' 40th Anniversary celebrations, 4 groups are combining to present "Everything Old is New Again" at 5 North Street, Caloundra.
Stitchers, Lace makers, Needlepoint & Tapestry groups are combining with "Machine Embroidery Girls" for this exciting exhibition on Saturday 23rd July 9am – 4pm and Sunday 24th July 10am – 2pm.
Old crafts are dying out and this exhibition aims to maintain and develop interest in these crafts and members will be displaying some new and exciting twists in a fun and interactive way. Free form crochet, yarn bombing and embroidery using computers and high tech sewing machines are just some of the different things that visitors can view and have a go at themselves.
Machine Embroidery can add beauty and detail to anything you can sew and became popular in the late 1990's. Costs have fallen for both machines and computerised software, with many free designs available on the internet. These fascinating machines will be operating over the weekend.
The exhibition will promote and champion knitting and crochet providing fresh interpretation of the traditional. Visitors will have a chance to participate and learn some new skills. Find out about "yarn bombing" and see what has been bombed!! Stitchers undertake many forms of embroidery and displays will abound including Hardanger, Mountmellick and cross stitch.
It is quite amazing to watch lace makers at work with their shuttles and pins, hands moving at a rapid pace to produce a truly beautiful and unique piece of handmade lace. If you are extremely lucky you may even be able to purchase a piece. The timeless art of tapestry making has been around for a very long time. The famed Bayeux Tapestry is preserved and displayed in Bayeux, in Normandy, France.
The first written record of the Bayeux Tapestry is in 1476. It is 70 metres long and 50 centimetres high. Ladies from our talented tapestry group will be demonstrating this time honoured art. This exhibition is a place to inspire and catch your imagination with the unique opportunity to support your local community and procure a genuine handmade article for yourself or as a gift.
Morning and afternoon teas will be available with delicious and tempting homemade cakes and slices.
Entry is free.
