BUSINESSES INVITED TO EXPORT SMART WORKSHOPS

Firms looking for new ways to grow their businesses by exporting are urged to attend State Government workshops next week in Beenleigh, Caboolture and Brisbane.

Premier Peter Beattie said Getting Export Smart was designed to encourage businesses across the State to take their products and services to the world.

"Local State Development Centres are offering the free introductory workshops to encourage businesses regardless of their size or industry to find out if exporting is for them," Mr Beattie said.

"It's a great way to meet your local export advisers, get a few tips on what it takes to export successfully and find out more about the five-part program that could help transform your business."

The workshops details are:
• Tuesday, March 6, at the Virginia Palms International Hotel, cnr Zillmere and Sandgate Roads, Boondall, from 5.30pm-7pm;
• Wednesday, March 7, Beenleigh State Development Centre, 96 George Street, Beenleigh from 9-11am;
• Wednesday, March 7, at North Lakes Resort Golf Club, Bridgeport Drive, Mango Hill, from 10am-12pm;
• Thursday, March 8, at Redcliffe City Council, Sutton Centre, 157-159 Sutton Street, Redcliffe, from 10am-12pm.

Mr Beattie said Queensland firms were leading the charge when it came to exporting, with the Smart State being one of the fastest growing exporters in the nation for 2005-2006 - achieving record goods and services exports of $42.5 billion.

"The Queensland Government is committed to enhancing the business environment to help expand the export reach of Queensland firms," he said.

"Taking smart goods and services across Australia and around the world contributes to the growth of our economy and creates even more employment opportunities for Queenslanders."

To register for a free introductory workshop or find out more about export assistance contact your local State Development Centre on 13 26 50 or visit www.export.qld.gov.au.
