Put Friday 16 November in your diary for what will be a serious night of fine grooves in The Bunker, with FAT PICNIC and their soul ska and swingin' reggae beats + OGOPOGO jazz disco funk pop surf rock + GRAHAM MOES and his vocal looping soul sounds. Yes, The Bunker will be pumping!
The story goes that Fat Picnic grew up in a big little town called Fat City. During their teens, some found paid employment as groovesmith apprentices or labourers at the local funk factory. When the local government was overturned by some smelly bandits, a group of young citizens banded together to resist their unfunky cause. The young citizens blasted the bandits with really catchy horn lines, great dancing tempos and ridiculously fun live shows. Dazzled by groove, the bandits were left helpless. By nightfall the city was returned to its true owners and a movement was formed. Their leader, Hughie suggested calling the group, ‘Obese Alfresco Dining’. However, after consideration, the group decided to call themselves Fat Picnic instead, united by a funky mission: “To spread love and good vibes!”
These days Fat Picnic is a soul-ska explosion that preaches punchy horn lines and bangin’ reggae beats - culminating in an energetic and infectious live show! Corrupted by an unquenchable lust for groove and outstanding noises, their music ranges across dub, funk, soul and ska. Simply put, there just ain’t no party like a Fat Picnic party!
Hailing from Melbourne, Ogopogo formed in 2016 with seven members comprising three horns, alto saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, four part vocals, drum kit, electric bass, electric guitar, and keys. Having released their first lo-fi EP along with an animated film clip ‘Crabs’ back in 2016 and since played a wealth of gigs and festivals, Ogopogo are now gearing up to launch their 7inch and single ‘Ninja Disco’ in early November (perfect timing for the Eumundi gig).
Combining elements of jazz, disco, funk, experimental pop, and surf rock, Ogopogo’s sound is an eclectic mix bag unlike any other. With lyrics inspired by crustaceans, clowns, cats and morphine, rats taking over your house and partying in your roof, the band tell relatable and comical stories through their songs.
Graham Moes is a soul singer set in a world of modern electronic influences. His sound incorporates the genres that Chet Faker, John Mayer, Sticky Fingers and the Red Hot Chili Peppers established, cultivating harmonious soundscapes and inescapable rhythm.
On stage he delivers a distinctive style of vocal looping; layers upon layers of thought and instrumentation all re-created there and in the moment.
