Everything to GAIN in Noosa's fit and fabulous Summer Session

Now in its third year, the Get Active in Noosa (GAIN) program launches into its Summer Session on Monday 3 December with exciting opportunities for people to get physically active being held all over the Shire.

Noosa Council Recreation Development Officer Wendy Guthrie says the aim of the GAIN program is to encourage residents to engage in community life.   "The project provides 'tasters' for people to trial a range of physical activity programs in safe and structured environments, with the opportunity to continue on independently as part of personal physical activity regimes.  Don't forget, Noosa Council also offers a wide range of recreation options through their facilities at the Aquatic Centre and Leisure Centre"

The Summer Session - December, January, February - includes the ever-popular Tai Chi every Monday, Thursday and Friday morning at Cooroy, Noosaville and Pomona, respectively.

"Tai Chi improves health, reduces stress and tension, and increases fitness levels.   It is beneficial for improved balance, flexibility, strength and body posture and recommended for conditions such as high blood pressure, arthritis, asthma, stomach ailments, heart problems and nervousness, " says the program's Tai Chi instructor, Ian Cameron.

Fitness circuits will run weekly at Noosaville Lions Park on Monday and Wednesday mornings.   Conducted by GT, these sessions are a complete cardio, upper and lower body workout using a range of simple fitness equipment.  This self-paced activity is suitable for all ages, sizes and levels of fitness with sessions held along the shady, breezy riverbank to make for a comfortable work out.

Power walking continues on with 'Lazy Runner', Marie Bean, for a brisk walk through one of the National Park tracks, back along the boardwalk to Noosa Main Beach, or perhaps charge up the challenging Viridian Steps.  Marie is a qualified instructor and will assist with fitness tips, stretching, warm ups and warm downs.  Participants could even get the chance of whale watching, not to mention the ever-present dolphins. To join this troupe, meet at the entrance of Noosa National Park Fridays at 6.30am.

Kayak Noosa will be taking advantage of the warmer weather on our beautiful Noosa River via professional kayaking instruction. You are invited to take a kayak tour in single or double style, with sails available for paddlers to use. Be prepared to get a little wet, bring water and don't forget to slip, slop, slap.   Numbers are limited so don't forget to book early.  So to get your low-impact upper body workout, and encounter some wildlife along the way, meet at Kayak Noosa's new headquarters at Jetty 17, Noosa Houseboats, Gympie Terrace, Noosaville.

A $2 donation for all activities applies to help keep this fit and fabulous program operating.  For more information please contact Noosa Council's Community Development Unit on 5449 5100 or visit the Ways to Get Active in Noosa pages on www.noosa.qld.gov.au.   Activities pause for the Christmas break from Monday 24 December to Tuesday 1 January inclusive.
