Pimples and peer pressure!
Meet Julie Jones. She has problems she has parents and a little brother! Meet Julie's parents: Jenny and Peter Jones, they both work hard to give their family all the things that they never had as children. And they constantly remind their children of the fact. Sound familiar? Meet Michelle Watson. She has problems she has parents! Meet Claire and Steve Watson: go-getters from the word go. Mobile phones and Filofaxes rule their lives but they have time for their youngest daughter just. Sound familiar? Meet Franky Zeferelli. He has problems the new kid in school, exotic sandwiches, and oh yeaha mum! Meet Maria Zeferelli: a single mother just looking out for her only boy and such a good boy! Sound familiar? This hilarious comedy is about the relationship between those ancient beings parentsand their over protected offspring: teenagers. The play looks at three teenagers who come from uniquely different backgrounds and how they see their parents... "Oh yuk! Homo Parentithicus... Found in most urban areas. Usually roam in pairs. Overprotective..." Peer pressure and pimples, Fossils deals with the usual aspects of growing up in suburban Australia; the trials and tribulations of teenagers. There's dealing with being the new boy in school, unrequited love, daggy family outings, annoying little brothers, the school dance, the "birds and the bees" lecture, and PARENTS (so old they must be fossils)! For Fossils, director Kayte New has cast: Lucy Doherty as Julie Jones; Leilani Beth Seeto as Michelle Watson; Jackson O'Sullivan as Franky Zefferelli; Justin Evers in the dual roles of the two dads Peter and Steve; and Vivienne Somers in the triple roles of the three mumsJenny, Claire and Maria! To reinforce the point that all parents seem the same to their offspring, that is being over-protective and over-bearing, the five adult roles are played by just two actors. Anyone who saw the rehearsed reading of Roger Hall's Take a Chance on Me at Noosa Arts Theatre for the Noosa Longweekend 2006 will know that Vivienne Somers, who played 22 different characters, can handle doing 3 characters! Viv will play mum to each of the teenage characters, which probable sounds like mission impossible to some people! Audiences will be amazed at how Viv can play the "stay-at-home" mum to Julie, literally turn around and be the corporate mum to Michelle, and moments later be the "Italian mamma" to Franky. Justin Evers, last seen on the Coast as Doug the pyromaniac in Cosi, will take on a similar challenge to play the working class dad to Julie and the corporate dad, with requisite mobile phone glued to his ear, to Michelle. theatre s is proud to have been invited to perform Fossils as part of the opening celebrations of the new Noosa Youth and Community Centre, known as The J. The "9 days @ the j" will showcase the $6.5 million venue to the community. From youth bands, to open days, to world music, a Seniors Melbourne Cup Luncheon, theatre, pantomime and cabaret. Fossils is an eminently suitable piece of theatre to help launch a venue dedicated in part to the youth of Noosa. performance details
