4 people. 3 relationships. You do the math.
theatre s is very fortunate to have the calibre of Louise Birgan, Leah Barclay and Madonna Rogerson as the creative team behind FourPlay by Jane Bodie.
Director, Louise Birgan, grew up in the northern suburbs of Brisbane. Due to being a tall redhead with mounds of freckles she was sent June Dally Watkins at the age of 14 to learn how to walk and put on make-up for self-confidence. At 16 she was runner up in the equivalent to what is now "Australia's next top model" and secured an agent in both Sydney and Paris. After finishing school she began a long and illustrious career in the modelling world. Working around the globe for top designers like Dior and Balenciaga and big name photographers. However, after 8 years, a long desire to act overtook the glamour and Louise seriously delved into the world of theatre. She studied firstly at the Actors centre in Sydney for one year along side Hugh Jackman in the Centre's initial "Journey" Course then returned to London and was accepted into the three-year course at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The School is known for its graduates such as Ewan Macgregor, Orlando Bloom, Daniel (James Bond) Craig and Joseph Fiennes to name but a few.
She graduated with a BA (Hons) in Acting and after working for the Royal Shakespeare Company and Carlton TV she returned to Sydney to continue her career.
Louise has now garnered a collection of serious acting work in films, TV series and comedies, Theatre and TV commercials. She has also produced, directed, and written for the theatre in Sydney.
Louise has now moved to the Sunshine Coast to have and raise her family as she believes it is the best place in Australia to bring up her children. Now she is launching herself on the coast's drama scene, directing FourPlay for theatre s and opening a school for aspiring professionals next year.
Accomplished composer, Leah Barclay, recently returned to Australia from a string of creative projects taking her across Europe and Canada. In 2006 Leah graduated with First Class Honours in composition from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and was awarded the Griffith Award for academic excellence. Her dissertation has attracted international attention and allowed her to travel widely to pursue the development of her original analytical methodology for Acousmatic music. Since founding and directing the successful multi-arts organization Zenith Studios, Leah has developed a line of original educational music publications and produced numerous innovative workshops and events that have received national and international recognition.
Leah's works have been commissioned for a diversity of high profile events and her music has been performed by leading ensembles and soloists in Australia and beyond. Her electronic works have featured at major conferences and international festivals and she is currently working on projects that span from the concert hall, film and theatre to interactive installations, live electronics and multi-media. Leah has been the recipient of numerous awards, grants and scholarships, and continues to shape a vigorous freelance career in Australia and internationally.
"Leah is one of the most talented Australian young composers today who is making a difference to the growth of Australian culture" Ros Bandt, University of Melbourne Press, 2007.
"Leah Barclay hails from Cooroy but her career will surly take her around the planet, her work Liquid Silenc,' left the crowd mesmerized…  but it's clear this is just the beginning for this young talent" Michael Knopf, Sunshine Coast Daily, 2006.
Production Designer, Madonna Rogerson, has conducted freelance artistic projects and community events over the last 15 years and 6 years ago Madonna relocated to Cooran. Local projects include developing themes and designing props for Entertainment nights (E-nights) at the Cooroy Butter Factory during 2003 and in 2004 joint project managed the Pomona's Enchanted Cavalcade. Madonna is also part of a street theatre duo The Travelling Bustle with Cheryl Ladlow.
The Black Madonna - Art Lounge and workshop is her latest venture. The venue, set in the old Cooran Timber Mill, is available for special events and photo and film shoots etc. Madonna has a Bachelors of Arts (Visual) and worked as an Arts Administrator for Queensland Artworkers Alliance and The Arts Council of New South Wales (Regional Arts NSW).

Successful funding from RADF
FourPlay is a story about 4 people and 3 relationships; you do the math! Who ends up with whom? You'll be surprised and delighted with the outcomes. A wonderful, modern piece of theatre. The author, Jane Bodie, suggests plays are closer to song and poetry than novels. There's more rhythm and word play.
theatre s gratefully acknowledges the assistance of the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) to involve a professional director, Louise Birgan, in the production of FourPlay. RADF is a Queensland Government and Noosa Shire Council partnership to support local arts and culture.
The funding is to develop and teach new techniques and skills to the actors as the play requires some non-naturalistic scenes to heighten the theatricality of the play. Louise Birgan graduated with a BA (Hons) Acting from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, England; which incorporated working with the Moscow Arts Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, and many other companies. Louise also trained in the famed Le Cocque Technique.
FourPlay features the actors: Sarah Bijou, Matthew Payne, Sharon Grimley, and Stephen Moore.
Only 6 performances of FourPlay are planned, including a Thursday morning matinee, which is somewhat unusual for a coast-based theatre. It was intended to be a Schools Matinee, but unfortunately the venues weren't available and now it's in School Holidays!
