Historian speaks of Aboriginal massacre
Event: Free author talk - Death Pudding: The Kilcoy Massacre
When: Tuesday 25 November from 5pm
What: Dr James Lergessner, one of Queensland's most distinguished historians, biographers and memoir writers, has focussed his latest work on one of the most infamous cases in Queensland history. Death Pudding is the epic tale of a mass poisoning of Aborigines by arsenic placed in their flour on Kilcoy Station in February of 1842.
The book tells of official bungling and inaction, squatter codes of silence and attempts to downplay the massacre's effect on early European settlement. This unflinching look at a dark chapter of Queensland history explores tough themes, twists and unexpected outcomes.
Dr Lergessner has published seven books set in early Queensland times as well as historical insights into Caboolture Shire, Bribie Island and Moreton Bay.
Copies of the book, signed by the author, will be available for purchase at the event. Please book at Maleny Library, or by phoning 5429 6222.
