The Sippy Downs & District Community Association will host a free community BBQ and environmental event on Saturday 26 May from 12pm to 2pm at Chancellor Park Lake 6, western side of Springhill Drive, Sippy Downs.
In 2011 the SDDCA successfully applied for a grant from the Energex Sunshine Coast Energy Conservation Community Benefit Fund to host a community environmental information day. This event will include a free barbecue and will provide an opportunity to promote environmental care and sustainability.
SDDCA President Mike Doroshenko said, “It was decided to hold the event at the completion of council’s rehabilitation work to Chancellor Park lake 6. Several past members of the SDDCA committee were also members of council’s Lakes Focus Group and have worked closely with council regarding the Chancellor Park Lakes. The SDDCA would particularly like to thank Sheree Lyons & Cr Christian Dickson for their commitment to the project. We would also like to acknowledge the support of CEO John Knaggs and former councillor, the Hon Steve Dickson, and the dedication and hard work of council’s Environmental Operations staff – Julian Wakefield, Kate MacKenzie, Mick Smith and Wayne Brockhurst.
“Residents were pleased that as council staff carried out the rehabilitation work, they were willing to provide progress updates and explain what was being done to improve the lake and protect its wildlife,” said Mr Doroshenko.
Cr Christian Dickson and council staff will be attending the barbeque and information will be available on how we can preserve the lakes system’s water quality, flora and fauna. Material from Energex will be provided as well as information on membership of the SDDCA.
Entertainment will include an educational live snake presentation by Buderim’s Jill Zimmerman of Wild Spirit. An added attraction will be a model boat demonstration by the Sunshine Coast Model Boat Club. A jumping castle will be on site for children to enjoy.
Mr Doroshenko said, “This will be a great family event and is an excellent opportunity for residents of Sippy Downs to socialise with other members of our community. All are welcome to attend - food and drinks provided. Please BYO chair if required.”
