TAFE Queensland East Coast will be the training provider for a Basic Health Care School to Work pilot program to start with year 11 high school students on the Sunshine Coast this year with zero cost to employers, students and schools.
“Students will be able to complete a nationally recognised Certificate III in Basic Health Care while still in high school leading to entry level employment within the highest employing sector in the region,” Paul Wilson General Manager TAFE Queensland East Coast said.
Health and community services is the region’s largest and fastest growing employment sector at the Sunshine Coast with employment figures set to double between 2011 and 2031 to 43,000 people working in the region in the health and community services industry.
“We’re proud to be involved in a program which is based on identifying local employment demand and industry driven to provide the right skills and knowledge needed for numerous roles in the health and community services sector,” Mr Wilson said.
The Health and Community Service Workforce Council were funded to develop and establish the program which will now be supported locally by the Department of Education, Training and Employment – Training Queensland, North Coast and TAFE Queensland East Coast.
The Basic Health Care School to Work program launches this week and interested students and employers are encouraged to attend an information night.
