A road safety expert from Nigeria and a local driving instructor will feature at a free community seminar at the University of the Sunshine Coast next week.
It will be held in Lecture Theatre 3 at USC’s main campus at Sippy Downs at 9am on Wednesday 26 September. Register here.
Dr Bridie Scott-Parker from the USC Adolescent Risk Research Unit (ARRU) said the seminar was an annual event, but this was the first time they would offer supervised activities for children aged three to 15 so their families could attend the event during the school holidays.
“Parents and grandparents can attend the seminar confident that the future drivers are also learning about road safety in a fun way, and this can mean some great conversations over the dinner table,” she said.
Speakers will include Dr Bolajoko Malomo from the University of Lagos on young driver road safety in Nigeria, Barry Spencer of Coastwide Driving on senior drivers’ safety awareness and Professor Barry Watson from the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety – Queensland.
Dr Scott-Parker will also share finding from the ARRU’s latest program to help senior drivers stay safe and stay mobile.
“From young to old, this seminar will suit anyone who uses the road,” she said.
