Friends of Noosa - a coalition of Noosa community groups -
31/07/2007 10,000 marching on Brisbane
Friends of Noosa - thousands of them - will be marching in Brisbane on Friday, August 3rd, delivering a gigantic postcard addressed to the Premier and also delivering a very strong message that residents of Noosa Shire will not accept being amalgamated into a Sunshine Coast super Council.
"We already have a 'super' Council, said rally stalwart Stan Chandler of the Residents & Ratepayers Association - and we don't need a change."
While the group has been doing its best to charter a train at very late notice, at present it looks as if free buses and residents' own private transport will be the go, with everyone who uses a vehicle being urged to carpool and transport their friends and neighbours - or else collect people from the bus collection points throughout the Shire.
The free buses will be leaving Noosa at 8.30 am from :
• Noosa Heads Lions Park
• The J, opposite Noosa Heads Post Office
• Noosaville Lions Park
• Council office building, Pelican St, Tewantin
• Peregian Beach Surf Club
• Cooroy Railway Station
• Eumundi Railway Station
Supporters should not bring hard placards but write any slogans on their T-shirts -- or wear Keep Noosa Special shirts if they have them. The rally is scheduled to commence at 10.30 am at the South Bank Parklands, opposite the Queensland Performing Arts Centre and will proceed to the Executive Building in George Street for presentation of the postcard.
To register for carpooling, please ring 5449 5333 or email email@example.com
with your name, address, contact phone number and the number of passengers you can take. To reserve a seat on the free transport, please ring 5449 5333 or 5449 5200. To keep up to date with last minute details, check the website : www.keepnoosaspecial.com.au
The website also has links to the email addresses and telephone numbers the Premier, Ministers, Labor Members, Kevin Rudd, etc. Residents and Noosa-lovers can help the campaign enormously by 'phoning these people before the end of Friday or emailing them up until Monday morning, saying what they think about the plan to amalgamate Noosa Shire. It is vital to do this urgently, as Cabinet is expected to meet to make its final decision on Monday, August 6th.
Attached are contact details for the Qld Cabinet. Cabinet will be sitting on Monday 6 August to ratify the recommendations of the Local Govt Reform Commission. Namely to combine Noosa in a Sunshine Coast Regional Council - this will be the death of Noosa as we know it - the Noosa we love and cherish. Give Beattie and his Cabinet a clear message WE DON'T WANT NOOSA MERGED. NOOSA MUST BE SEPARATE AND SAVED with extended borders south.
The best way to get the message out is to let them know their own personal futures are on the line - No Noosa = No Labor. Mr Rudd needs to know this too as its his neck on the line in six short months. Send a personalised email to all the Cabinet, to Beattie, to Rudd. Let them know we will not accept this, that democracy still lives in Qld. There's no need to get nasty, no need to denegrate Maroochy or Caloundra. Just send a clear message plain and simple. Mayor Bob is doing all the lobbying he can. The Friends of Noosa are organising a RALLY. The rally will be held in Brisbane on Friday. Transport options, routes and times are being finalised now. Buses will be departing from several pick up points. Details will be released on the website shortly www.keepnoosaspecial.com.au
SO EMPOWER YOURSELF - KEEP THE RAGE GOING. Email and phone the Cabinet members and let your voice be heard. Forward this information to everyone you know. Everyone who loves Noosa, everyone who lives, works, visits here. March in Brisbane and be counted. Lets just see what people power can do!!
It's not over yet...
We've only got until 6th August to change the recommendation to amalgamate Noosa to form a Sunshine Coast Super City
