David Williamson's play, Influence, is a scathing and bitingly funny play about the media personalities that dominate our lives and the divisions that can shatter families. It has been an outstanding success at the box office and it is as relevant today as when first staged in 2005.
Noosa Arts Theatre will stage this play from 20 to 30 April, 2011 to celebrate David Williamson's 40 years as a writer, the theatre's 40 years entertaining Noosa and to launch major fund-raising for the Building Fund to get the new toilets and dressing rooms completed
"Influence is about a Sydney shock jock Ziggy Blasco who enjoys stirring up animosities by ranting his far right opinions daily over the radio," says David Williamson.
"While he has command of the airwaves, at home he exercises far less authority."
"His second wife is a spoiled princess who spends like an Arab Oil Sheik, his daughter is bipolar, and his father reveals a past which threatens to finish Ziggy's career and his housekeeper, living a difficult life, becomes offended by his glib diatribes."
"Influence is about how easy it is to whip up hatred and how difficult it is to live a decent and tolerant life."
"It's also often blackly funny as Ziggy's domestic situation approaches meltdown."
Director, Sam Coward, has an enviable record in bringing to the coast cutting edge theatre which thrills audiences. He aims to continue that record when he directs David Williamson's Influence.
His production of Jesus Christ Superstar in 1999 broke all box office records on the Sunshine Coast and audiences responded enthusiastically to his production of Shout. His production of La Ronde at Noosa Arts Theatre was daring and received excellent reviews.
"Influence will be a fast paced thrill ride through the mind of self centred radio demi-god," says Sam.
Sam has chosen a strong cast with Mark Darin of Mark and Caroline fame from Mix FM, Joe Jurisevic, Summer Brown, Xanthe Coward, Jodie Bushby, Stephen Moore and Sharon Grimley.
