I would like to draw your attention to the "Garden Tourism Week" being co-sponsored by the Sunshine Coast Sister Cities Association and the Buderim Garden Club as a B150 program of events. Catering by Buderim CWA. This week of activity is supported by SC Destinations and has been promoted Australia wide through the Australian Tourism Warehouse and magazines.
The events have been promoted more intensively in central and southern Qld and north and north-west NSW. The SCSCA component is supported by a SCRC community grant. The activities coincide with the 'Year of Chinese Culture in Australia", a reciprical event to the 'Year of Australian Culture in China' last year. The guest speaker is a professor from the Xiamen University.
Classical Chinese gardens have strongly influenced garden design in 'western' culture, in the past half century. We have a lot more to learn from the design principles, in facing the increasing demands of closer urban density, higher population growth, and climate change influences. Pocket-hankerchief gardens that still must meet our social and garden needs require new design.
Higher use of urban parks require new design. Climate change effects on plant persistence will interact with population pressures of higher use and force redevelopment. Council officers, landscapers and landscape architects are especially welcome. The Autumn Plant Exhibition will feature Sunshine Coast specialist plant societies and Buderim Garden Club, (representing garden clubs of the Sunshine Coast), plus plant themed artists-artisans; plus mini-landscapes, bio-fertiliser technology, specialised plant growers, SCRCouncil exhibit of plant related activities.
Bio-fertiliser a ‘new’ technology is relevant to farm use as well as parks n gardens. It deserves greater recognition and adoption into mainstream technology use.
