The University of the Sunshine Coast will host the second annual Geoff Shadforth Memorial Lecture in honour of the prominent Sunshine Coast businessman who died tragically in 2013. The 2015 Geoff Shadforth Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Mr Gerry Harvey, founder and current Chairman of the retail giant Harvey Norman and Co-Founder of Magic Millions - a bloodstock auction house that operates interstate and internationally.
The Magic Millions Carnival and Race Day on the Gold Coast is the richest race day on the Queensland calendar. Come along to hear from the man who co-founded his first store at the age of 22, and now sees 20,000 people employed across 277 company-owned and franchised stores in Australia and internationally. Harvey Norman has approximately $2.3 billion invested in property, and attributes its outstanding performance over the past 30 years to a successful integrated retail, franchise, property system and digital presence.
Mr Harvey's other passion is thoroughbred horses, he has four horse studs, and is a partner in the ownership of Vinery Stud, along with 1,200 horses, he employs 55 trainers in Australia and 30 trainers in New Zealand. Mr Harvey's insight into the retail and property sectors, along with his thoroughbred and Magic Millions success, will make for an inspirational evening.
The University of the Sunshine Coast is proud to be presenting the annual Geoff Shadforth Memorial Lecture which continue Geoff's passion for creating growth and opportunities for the Sunshine Coast community.
