The Noosa Pirates Rugby League Club will be hosting the Melbourne Storm Rugby League Football Club at Noosa from the 13th to the 20th February 2004.
During their stay which will be funded wholly by the Noosa Pirates, the Storm will play a sanctioned pre season trial against Queensland Cup semi finalists Tweed Head Seagulls on Saturday the 14th February at Noosa Pirates home ground which is situated in the Noosa Sports Complex, Butler Street, Tewantin. Both sides will be playing for the Melco Mite 10 Challenge Cup.
That game will be played at 7.30pm. The curtain raisers will see the Storm Development Squad play a trial against a Sunshine Coast Development Squad at 4.30pm while the Noosa Pirates will play Central Queensland heavy weights Yeppoon Seagulls at 6pm for the Villa Noosa Challenge Cup.
The Noosa Pirates will then in conjunction with the Melbourne Storm hold a coaching clinic on Monday the 16th February for all junior footballers at the Pirates home ground from 4pm to 6pm. All Storm players will be involved in the coaching clinic.
On Wednesday the 18th February the Storm will participate in a Charity Golf Day at the Tewantin Noosa Golf Club. Tee off is at 12 midday. All proceeds from the charity golf day will go to the Leukemia Foundation.
The Noosa Pirates decided to approach a senior NRL Club to visit and stay at Noosa for a week in order to actively promote and market rugby league.
To secure the services of the Melbourne Storm, we at the Noosa Pirates would be required to cover all expenses incurred. That being accommodation at a resort for 38 people, bus hire, facility hire and other incidental expenses. The Noosa Pirates are also responsible for the expenses incurred by both the Tweed Heads Seagulls and Yeppoon Seagulls.
As one can appreciate the cost to the Noosa Pirates is enormous and to cover expenses the Melbourne Storm agreed to play a pre season trial at our home ground against quality opposition.
To cover our costs we need a crowd of some 3,000 paying customers to attend the game on Saturday the 14th February. Admission cost is $6 for adults with children free.
The Noosa Pirates are active in promoting rugby league in the district and feel that if we can get a class NRL club to our area and actively promote the code then the money is well spent.
Get out there & help them!
