ZEST Robotics is hosting a girls-only engineering and robotics workshop to teach young girls the essentials when it comes to building, programming and competing with a LEGO EV3 robot. Throughout the workshop, girls will develop outside the box thinking, when it comes to creating their own personalised sumo competition robot.

This is the first holiday workshop of ours, though not our first-time teaching and mentoring young girls about robotics and generic engineering principles. We have competed internationally, as we recently travelled to America to attend the FIRST LEGO League World Festival Houston. Our team, RoboRoyals came second in the global competition, and have been crowned Australian champions. Over the course of three years, we’ve attended over 20 immersion days, robotics volunteering events, and collaborated with local universities to deliver high-quality robotics education to young aspiring girls.

We know that engineering, science and technology is the future. And we also know, that the future is female. What is important is that we can equip today’s young minds, with the knowledge, skills and confidence that tomorrows leaders, engineers and scientist need. ZEST Robotics is the first stepping stone to a world of opportunity for all girls alike.

Our holiday workshops focus primarily on LEGO Mindstorms, a simple medium to teach complex skills. Throughout the day we will focus on our core 5; resilience, friendly competition, cooperation, challenge and of course, fun. Our workshops are designed for beginner to intermediate girls, aged between 8-14. We'd love to meet you, so join us! We have one thing in common... Girl Power!

What to expect:

1. Workshop participants will be taught the fundamentals of LEGO Mindstorms coding.

2. Kids will learn how to design and build a robot. This includes details as to how to optimise motors, sensors and attachments to make their robot perform specific tasks.

3. Over the day, we will apply our core 5 to create a fun, safe learning environment.

Laptops and robots will be provided.

What to bring: Lunch and water bottle
