Stars of the Golden Fiddle Awards show, the only big fiddle event of the famous Tamworth country music festival every January are going on the road with two Queensland gigs this November. !Some of the most popular fiddlers from the Golden Fiddle Awards, entering its tenth year next January, will bring the electric atmosphere of a full-on fiddle show to audiences at the Event Centre in Caloundra on 22 November and at Brisbane’s Irish Club on 23 November. !The Golden Fiddle Show traditionally packs the Tamworth Town Hall every January, and is now considered one of the top alternative events at the music festival. The Golden Fiddle Awards honour the best of Australian and New Zealand fiddle talent.
This will be the first time the Golden Fiddle Show has been seen outside Tamworth and will be hosted by one of Australia’s top fiddlers, Pixie Jenkins. Pixie also produces the annual Awards show in Tamworth, and was himself honoured in 2009 with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Pixie is a global performer who toured for many years as violinist in the John Williamson show and is now a popular radio presenter with his own country music show on 989FM out of Brisbane.
In the Queensland show lineup is the man they call Australia’s Stephane Grapelli, Ian Cooper, an award winning stage performer who was commissioned to compose the Tin Symphony for the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympics. He also performs in regular cabaret shows with musical star James Morrison. Ian was awarded the Golden Fiddle for best fiddle soloist in Australasia in 2006. !Also in the Queensland show is the string quartette from Bundaberg, Quatro, who won the hearts of the Golden Fiddle show audience in 2011 and went on to receive the Golden Fiddle Youth Achievement Award in 2012. They are a vibrant stage act, incorporating choreography into spirited fiddle playing.
Acknowledged by the Golden Fiddle Awards as one of Australia's best fiddle teachers, having won the award two years in a row, Emma Nixon is also in the Queensland lineup. Emma is a star of the Australian fiddle scene with her powerful and passionate performances of traditional and contemporary Scottish music which have enchanted audiences across Australia and around the world.
She also won a Golden Fiddle Award in 2012 for the best CD by a fiddler. An energetic fiddle player and club performer in the Queensland scene, David Lee will be in both shows. David has performed around the world and he covers the musical range from classical to country jazz. !These two Queensland performances will showcase the best fiddle playing of international standard, rarely seen in one stage performance.
