An exhibition of recent works by well-known sculptor, timber artist and furniture-maker Ross Annels will open at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery on Thursday 18 September at 6.30pm.
The exhibition, “Grainy Songs: biomorphic furniture and votive works by Ross Annels” will feature selected pieces from the personal art collection of the Cooroy-based artist who uses ethically sourced and sustainably managed Australian timbers.
USC Gallery Curator Dawn Oelrich said Mr Annels designs and makes furniture to order and by commission for Australian and international clients.
“Ross specialises in chairs but also other furniture that is useful but beautiful, sculptural artworks to live with,” she said.
“He uses organic shapes and references in his art and creates beyond eco-design, where the material informs the finished product.
“This is the first opportunity that we have had to exhibit Ross’ amazing craft here at the University of the Sunshine Coast.”
The exhibition will continue until Saturday 1 November.
USC Gallery also will host a discussion about biomorphic design between Mr Annels and arts writer Dr Tamsin Kerr from 6.30pm on Wednesday 24 September as part of its “Art & Architecture” lecture series.
