Strategist, behavioural researcher and social commentator Dan Gregory will help inspire lecturers and tutors at the University of the Sunshine Coast as part of USC’s annual Learning and Teaching Week.
Known for his insight and wit on ABC-TV’s advertising-oriented show The Gruen Transfer, Mr Gregory will give a public keynote address from 4.30-6.30pm on Thursday 4 September at USC’s Innovation Centre auditorium on campus at Sippy Downs.
Learning and Teaching Week convenor Caroline Cottman said this year’s theme was ‘Teachers as Learners’, recognising the need for teaching staff to continually develop during their careers to provide students with state-of-the-art learning opportunities.
“We will have five days of master classes and workshops on topics ranging from new technologies to ‘flipped classrooms’, where students are set tasks before attending lectures to encourage active learning,” Ms Cottman said.
Mr Gregory, who is CEO of innovation think tank The Impossible Institute and has worked with major international clients, will speak about Collaborative Intelligence (“We-Q as opposed to IQ”) and the potential for creative partnerships in teaching and learning.
“The top down model of disseminating information and acquiring competence is shifting as organisations, communications and information become more complicated and interconnected,” he said.
“This means no-one is the sole repository of information, of ‘rightness’, or even the truth. The more collaborative our process, the higher our collective IQ.
“In a world where teachers are increasingly being called upon to be lifelong students, this has never been more critical.”
