Gympie Dresses Up For Australia Day
Now it's time to think about what to wear on Australia Day. Be part of the celebration by dressing in historical costume. Gympie's 2006 Australia Day event will be held in the Showgrounds at Southside. There will be a chance to win great prizes for wearing traditional costume from your country of birth or Australian pioneer clothing.
Mayor Mick Venardos said that with free entry, rides, displays, entertainment, sausage sizzle, billy tea and damper the event wouldn't break the bank.
The 2006 event will feature "Face of Industry" displays and tastings of local products. From macadamias to crayfish, wines to olives, honey to lead lighting, coffee to soy candles, cartooning to scrapbooking, the morning promises to be informative, tasty and interesting.
Mayor Venardos is asking that you come along to reaffirm your loyalty to Australia by reciting an affirmation for Australia Day or just feel good about singing our National Anthem as the lyrics are in the eight page souvenir program. The raising of the flags, Australia Day awards, naturalizations and the entertainment will be held in The Pavilion.
Southside market stalls will surround The Pavilion with roving performers to entertain you. Watch the belly dancers, ride in the horse drawn carriage, listen to the barbershop chorus and learn how to juggle or just be amazed by the highland swordfighters.
Mayor Venardos said there will be fun for all ages and tastes with auto displays, children's games, bungy trampoline, martial arts and fitness displays, gold panning, woodworking demonstrations and art and craft, so start planning what to wear now.
