Based on the very popular novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Half of a Yellow Sun is set in Nigeria at a crucial time in its history. Having gained independence from Britain in 1960, the underlying issues of colonialism imposed on a basically tribal society were swept under the carpet.
Two privileged daughters of the Ibo tribe, Olanna and Kainene, who have university degrees from Britain, choose to go their own way. Kainene to a career in the south with English lover Richard, and Olana to her revolutionary lover Odenigbo, an academic. When all hell breaks loose, the Ibo tribe is in imminent danger.
