The State Government has asked the Sunshine Coast Community to consider what areas it wants to consider for possible future urban expansion. In particular the community is asked to consider two areas on the southern end of the coast: Halls Creek and the Beerwah Caloundra South Corridor. Resident groups, environmental organisations and Chambers of Commerce are all concerned about this issue as it will have significant implications for what our community will look and feel like in 30 to 40 years time.
The decision we make today will have a major impact on our ability to preserve our natural environment, our scenic amenity and the character of existing communities. We have prepared a video that provides a background to the issue and an overview of what we know about the two site. The video can be accessed on SCECs YouTube Channel.
All members of the community will have an opportunity to hear directly from relevant planning and environmental experts and to ask questions of our Mayor and local members Mark McArdle and Andrew Powell during a community forum that is being organised for the 3rd July 2014. The forum will feature a panel that will include representatives from SCEC, OSCAR, and the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce alongside our mayor and local members. A warm welcome is extended to all member of the community to participate and discuss what we want our community to look like going forward.
