31 January 2006 'Happy Hour' helps cheer baton relay
There will be extra cheer as the Melbourne 2006 Queen's Baton passes through Maroochydore's Ocean Street and Duporth Avenue, en route to the community event at Cotton Tree Park.
The Maroochydore Chamber of Commerce, on behalf of Maroochy Shire Council, have organised a happy hour between 4 and 5pm at local restaurants and bars in celebration this special occasion.
Maroochy Division 10 Councillor, Mick Hourigan, applauded local businesses for showing their 'sporting spirit' and embracing this opportunity.
"They will be upholding a great Aussie sporting tradition - a happy hour during a momentous sporting occasion!" Cr Hourigan said.
"This is also a tremendous way to introduce some of these great new bars and restaurants to the people of Maroochy.
Participating venues include Ellmo's of Ocean St, Key Bar and Restaurant, Bica, Duporth Tavern Garden Bar, Platinum Deli, Hunt by the River and The Wine Bar.
"This area is looking fantastic and visitors and residents will be pleasantly surprised if it's been a while since their last visit."
The 'happy hour' and Council's free community event at Cotton Tree Park will be held on Wednesday 1 February.
