Tuesday 5th August 2008  Blood no deterrent for rowers in Health Foundation Row For Cancer

It's certainly been a case of blood, sweat and perhaps even a few silent tears during the past two years of the Health Foundation Row For Cancer.

The marathon 10 kilometre race on Maroochy River from Cotton Tree to Petrie Creek and back presents a fair challenge to outriggers, sculls and surf boat teams, with surf boat rowers last year "limping" across the finish line with bleeding hands.

But that's not enough to stop these waterway warriors who expressed disinterest at the much-reduced 3 kilometre event proposed this year by the Sunshine Coast Health Foundation.  The Health Foundation today conceded to reinstate the 10 kilometre event on the race programme to meet the requests of many of the regular Coast clubs who treat the race as part of their training regime.

Clubs across Queensland and New South Wales are encouraged to register early for the September 6 event at Cotton Tree on the Sunshine Coast.

The Health Foundation will direct proceeds from the third annual Health Foundation Row For Cancer towards furnishing the $2million accommodation facility being donated to support Nambour Hospital by the Reed Charity Foundation.

Deadline for registrations online at www.healthfoundation.com.au  is Friday 29th August.
