Local Heart Foundation Appeal Kicked Off By MP
JARROD Bleijie Member for Kawana has today kick started the Heart Foundation Doorknock Appeal with a personal donation and urged all local residents to get behind the campaign.
Mr Bleijie said he got involved in the Doorknock Appeal because he wanted to help the Heart Foundation to fund life saving research and promote health in the community.
"Heart Disease is the number one killer of Australian men and women," Mr Bleijie said.
"Today, I'm urging everyone to dig deep and make a donation when a Heart Foundation volunteer knocks on your door during the month of September.
"The majority of funding for the Heart Foundation comes from donations from the public, which is essential to helping reduce the suffering and death caused by heart disease in Australia.
"I support the Heart Foundation because it's an independent charity that funds world class research and health professionals and promotes health in the community.
"In 2011, the Heart Foundation has invested $13.6 million into cardiovascular research.
"Funds raised by the 2011 Doorknock Appeal will help them continue to fund this research as well as community projects to improve awareness, prevention and the treatment of heart disease," Mr Bleijie said.
Heart Foundation volunteers can be recognised by the badge they wear, which features the Heart Foundation logo and the words Volunteer Collector Official Identification Badge. The badge also has the volunteer's ID number and an expiry of 16 September 2011.
Collectors will also have an official receipt book and a small Heart Foundation bag.
"If you are not home when one of the doorknock volunteers visit, you can make a donation by phoning 1800 55 22 55 or online at : www.heartfoundation.org.au/doorknock," Mr Bleijie said.
