Sunshine Coast Council has partnered with Kidfit and the Heart
Foundation to launch the second baby walking group that is also focused
on improving literacy levels in children from birth.
Kicking off on Monday 4 October at 8am, the 45-minute Baby Brigade Pram Walks will happen every month and will incorporate baby book making, mural making and other art activities.
Using the Kidfit framework of 'fiteracy', the mothers and fathers in the walking groups will push their prams along the beautiful coastline of Coolum Beach, socialising and getting fit while engaging their child in activities to promote literacy.
Kidfit Coach Brodie Cambourne believes it is important to expose babies to creativity from an early age.
"All these activities such as walking and talking, painting and writing with babies are important bonding processes with parents and babies," Brodie said.
"They help download little images and emotions in a baby's brain about the fun things they did with Mum and Dad as a child.
"The paintings, pictures and feelings that we can evoke in a baby from birth are all great triggers for speech and language development as they provide babies with experiences they want to talk about, therefore giving them more reason to want to talk."
If you live in Caloundra, the Caloundra Heart Foundation Baby Brigade Pram Walk Group meets at The Taste of Bliss caf at Moffat Beach on the last Friday of each month at 8am.
