Hendra update: more information sessions for horse owners

Biosecurity Queensland will be holding four more information sessions in south east Queensland to provide horse owner’s with details to help protect themselves and their animals against Hendra virus.

The information sessions will be held at:

Tuesday, July 12

Dr Rick Symons said that in addition, Biosecurity Queensland have two mobile offices which will be visiting local centres and major events over the coming days.

“People will be able to pick up comprehensive Hendra virus information packs from these mobile offices as well as having the opportunity to ask staff specific questions.”

Dr Symons said Biosecurity Queensland had now quarantined five properties at Park Ridge, Logan City, after a horse died of Hendra virus infection on Monday night.

The property where the horse died has been quarantined as well as four neighbouring properties.

A total of nine properties are now under quarantine in Queensland.

This includes three properties in the Beaudesert area and one property at Mt Alford, near Boonah.

Currently, 42 horses are being monitored across all nine properties but Biosecurity officers are continuing to work with property owners to establish any potential contact other horses may have had with infected horses.
