Henri Szeps - Why Kids?
Tuesday 27th June at 7:30pm

At the time of writing Henri is appearing in David Williamson's new hit, CHARITABLE INTENT at the Ensemble Theatre, Sydney, after a national tour of PRESIDENT WILSON IN PARIS (HIT Prodns). This was preceded by the masterpiece, 12 ANGRY MEN (Bris., Syd., Melb.) and a sell-out season of his second autobiographical one-man show, WHY KIDS?  also at Ensemble Theatre. And before that there was a year as Herr Schultz in Sam Mendes's acclaimed production of CABARET, (national tour) which earned Henri a Helpmann Award (Best Supporting Actor in a Musical, 2003).

After the enormous success a few years ago, of I'M NOT A DENTIST, which dealt mainly with his career, Henri decided to write something about the "other half of his life" to which he was equally devoted: namely marriage and raising his children.

Hence WHY KIDS? It is an entertainment loaded with jokes, hilarious anecdotes and a few well chosen songs. It thrives on the comedy and drama of everyday life. In fact the play's climax is a very candid exposé of the dynamics that occurred between Henri and his teenage children.

But to get to that point Henri necessarily addresses the baggage he brought to parenting: his early childhood in war-torn Europe; being a migrant kid in Australia in the 50's; and his deep passion for acting.

These strands are beautifully woven together in this funny, warm and uplifting entertainment.

(A must for anyone who is bringing up kids, and for anyone who h has brought up children and is still wondering, "What happened?")

""An absolutely magical show. I think it has relevance to people of all ages." Alan Jones, 2GB
"Hilarious." Phil Kafcaloudes, ABC
"There's something inspiring about this work." Stephen Dunn, SMH.
"Szeps is a master entertainer." Peter Morrison, Jewish News.
