Prominent locals to feature during Heritage Week
Caloundra City Libraries' Local Studies Unit will be hosting a week of exciting activities during Heritage Week [May 1-8] with a host of prominent locals on the list.
Caloundra City Mayor, Don Aldous, said the highlight of the week will be an afternoon tea and talk with Sunshine Coast Historian Stat Tutt and Roger Todd from the National Trust of Queensland at the Beerwah Community Hall on Wednesday May 4 at 2pm.
"As an individual Stan Tutt has done a great deal for local history, in particular Caloundra City and the former Landsborough Shire," Cr Aldous said.
"He has an extensive knowledge of the history of our area and his skill in imparting that knowledge has kept alive the history of the Sunshine Coast.
"Roger Todd is an architect and heritage advocate from Caloundra, so the combination of these two prominent locals is sure to be a crowd pleaser."
Other prominent locals include Caloundra's own Anne Wensley at the Caloundra Central Library on Friday May 6 at 10.30am. Morning tea provided.
She will talk about the early social history of Caloundra and the region, and the people who played a part in the industry of the town.
Also on Friday May 6 at 5.30pm at the Maleny Branch Library, Brisbane barrister Stephen Sheaffe will examine the circumstances surrounding the trial of Dundalli - an admired aboriginal leader from the Ningy Ningy clan of Bribie Island who was arrested and sentenced to death for the murders of Europeans in the 1840s.
This event will also include a wine and cheese evening. Bookings essential for all three Heritage Week events.
