The Christmas spirit is alive and well on the North Shore.

Locals are excited and getting ready for the North Shore Community Centre’s annual Christmas celebration to be held on Saturday, 26 November from 10.00am – 2.00pm and thousands are expected to come along and celebrate.

Free activities will range from a wildlife show with Marcoola & Coolum Coastal Care, jumping castles, face painting, DIY Christmas arts and crafts, to dance shows and demonstrations and a kids Christmas play. Centre co-ordinator, Shannon Embery and her team of volunteers were the creators of the celebration and Shannon said the event is a labour of love that gains in popularity each year.

“The centre will be a buzz with excitement and were thrilled so many from our North Shore community will take time out to start their Festive Season with us,” Shannon said.

“Engaging with our community in celebrating the joy of Christmas in a safe, fun and friendly environment is what this event is all about. Our motto is Be involved, be inspired, and be connected and to reduce social isolation in our community. By bringing our community together for our annual celebration we aim to strengthen existing networks or create new networks between, neighbours, community groups, local businesses and individuals of the North Shore area,” Shannon added.

The event will be topped off with the arrival of Santa Claus by helicopter, thanks to a ride from Becker Helicopters.  Live Entertainment will take place on the outdoor garden stage with a fantastic local trio, “Two Birds & A Cat”.

Local gift stalls, community, sporting and charity groups will once again line the centre adding to the market style atmosphere with Chrissie pressies, raffles, baked goods and info for the community on what’s happening in your area. The Maroochy North Shore Lions will fundraise with a sausage sizzle and cold drinks for a gold coin donation. Members of the community are also asked to bring along a gift and place it under a Christmas tree for IFYS to forward onto families in need this Christmas. Those who are keen to support this initiative but can’t attend the Christmas celebration can still get involved. Simply donate a wrapped gift to a boy or girl until 7 December, and IFYS will collect them from the centre for distribution.

Shannon also took time to thank the Marcoola Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank as major sponsor of the Christmas celebration. Manager, Kerryn Vincart said it’s an event everyone looks forward to.

“As locals, we know of the amazing work and activities at the North Shore Community Centre. Their annual Christmas Celebration has become part of getting ready for Christmas and I’m delighted our branch is able to support the event again this year. On behalf of all the sponsors of the celebration, I hope as many as possible can come along and enjoy the amazing Festive Season activities and fun on offer,” Kerryn said.

Other local businesses digging deep to sponsor the event, include: Sunshine Coast Council, North Shore Realty, Maroochy North Shore Realty, Sunshine Coast Printing, The “Two Birds & A Cat” Trio and Becker Helicopters.
