Are you interested in developing the Sunshine Coast as a more universally accessible destination for both tourism and locals alike? One in five Queenslanders have a disability, alongside an ageing population utilising more mobility aids such as motorised scooters which make everyday access to facilities more difficult.
Small changes in how we design, build and offer our facilities to the public can make big differences in how accessible we are and the resulting number of people who visit.
Session One: Inclusive Tourism - Industry Breakfast 7:00 am - 9:00 am
Join us for breakfast and learn about an emerging tourism demographic and how we can capture their business on the Sunshine Coast. Exciting discussions and insight into the economic and social benefits inclusive tourism practices can bring to the region.
Session Two: Universal Design and Planning Public Spaces 9:30 am - 12:30 pm
The use of universal design concepts in planning and design of public spaces allows for inherent accessibility for the community, including people with disability, parents with prams and seniors.
Take a closer look at how universal design concepts can be applied during the planning phase to go beyond ensuring Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliance, to examining a way of life. Sometimes the smallest changes at the design stage can make monumental differences in a person with disability’s way of life.
Workshop includes guest speakers and strategic analysis of local public spaces. A light lunch will be offered for Session Two attendees at 12:30 if you wish to stay. Please RSVP for the lunch as well as the session(s) you will be attending.
Bookings are required.
