Be Bold For Change – trying to find ways to make a more gender-inclusive world.

Guest Speaker:  Dr Bridie Scott-Parker PhD Qld.UT, BPsych(Hons 1st class) Qld.UT, BPsych Qld.UT, BSc (Environmental Sciences) Griff.

Dr Bridie Scott-Parker is a University of the Sunshine Coast Senior Research Fellow.  Her breakfast presentation will encompass both professional and personal triumphs and ‘less-triumphs’. Bridie personifies the IWD theme of “Be Bold for Change”, and will share her experiences as the creator and leader of the Sunshine Coast Mind and Neuroscience–Thompson Institute’s Adolescent Risk Research Unit, and the international research conglomerate the Consortium of Adolescent Road Safety, all within three years of completing her PhD.

Academia aside, she has managed these feats while juggling parenting two rambunctious teens and her own serious health problems. Bridie is also recognised locally, nationally, internationally for her capacity to ‘speak English’, translating complex scientific findings into the simple reality of what they mean for everyday Australians.

She is regularly featured in print, radio and televised media, particularly regarding the wicked problem of teens being killed and seriously injured in car crashes – the focus of much of her research activities. In addition, many of her activities involve speaking with the groups most commonly affected by these car crashes, including students at our local high schools such as Immanuel Lutheran College, and teens and parents who participate in driving simulator studies at the University’s Sippy Downs campus.

Raffles including $50 Myer Voucher.

Dietary requirements catered for – just email when booking. Seating plan – please ask for specific seating, if required. Bookings and pre-payment are essential.
