IT'S PUPPY WEEK AT THE SUNSHINE COAST
It's that very cute and cuddly time of year again as Puppy Week comes to the Sunshine Coast and volunteers are still desperately being sought to help.
Puppy Week activities are being held at Kawana ShoppingWorld from 25th - 30th October; Noosa Fair from 1 - 6 November; and Stockland Shopping Centre in Caloundra from 15 - 20 November.
Guide Dogs Queensland is putting out an urgent call for volunteers to help with activities at Caloundra.
Guide Dogs in training and some Guide Dog puppies will be putting in appearances at the shopping centers and checking out the likeness of the huge range of puppy toys on sale.
Guide dogs Queensland Fundraising Officer Karen Furnivall says all money raised from the sale of the puppy toys will be used to fund the Guide Dog Puppy Development program.
"The program is a vital part of the training process during which puppies learn basic obedience and become familiar with day-to-day experiences such as visiting shopping centers and traveling on public transport," Karen said.
"The journey of turning a playful pup into a professional Guide dogs is a very costly exercise involving one-on-one intensive training by qualified staff. It currently costs more than $25,000 to breed, train and place just one Guide Dog and all Guide Dogs are provided completely free-of-charge."
Guide Dogs Queensland receives less than 3 per cent government funding and relies heavily upon the community to support events such as Puppy Week and help fund their Guide Dog services.
