Julia Child, the wife of an American Foreign Serviceman who spent much of his professional life in , is not one to sit around playing cards. She takes cookery lessons in with limited success at first, but once accomplished decided to create the definitive French cook book for American housewives, "Mastering the Art of French Cooking". Published in 1961, it has become one of the best-loved cook books in American households. Fast forward to 2002, and Julie Powell decides to attempt to cook all the recipes in Childs' book in one year and blog about it.
