Put your best foot forward and help fight heart disease
Put your walking shoes on and get ready to pound the pavement - the Heart Foundation's annual fundraising walk is on again.
Caloundra City Mayor, Don Aldous, said with over 50,000 deaths from cardiovascular disease in Australia each year, there is no time like the present to start being pro-active.
"Cardiovascular disease is still Australia's number one killer and regular physical activity can help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke," Cr Aldous said.
"Council is already a big supporter of physical activity, with the out there and active program offering a range of options from walking and biking to golf, surf safety and fishing, and this is a great opportunity for Council and residents to support a good cause."
To help promote the Heart Foundation's message and to raise much-needed funds for research and health programs Council's Just Walk It group will host a fundraising walk in Heart Week.
For a gold coin donation participants of all ages and fitness levels can join in the walk, which will leave from the swimming pool at Kings Beach, Caloundra at 7am on Saturday May 7.
Just Walk It is the largest group walking program in Australia, with 4500 registered participants in 71 regions. The program is funded by the Queensland Government and co-ordinated in Caloundra by Caloundra City Council.
