HELP UNDERWATER WORLD CLEAN UP THE COAST!
With the significant increase in the number of stranded turtles, UnderWater World has turned its attention to prevention as well as cure with a Clean Up Australia Day initiative scheduled Sunday March 6 at Kawana Beach, Buddina.
When dinosaurs roamed the Earth more than 150 million years ago, turtles were plentiful. Of the world's seven species of marine turtles, six are found within Australian waters! Sadly, all six species are listed as either endangered or vulnerable to becoming extinct.
For over 20 years UnderWater World has been involved in the rehabilitation and release of marine turtles that arrive at the Mooloolaba aquarium suffering illnesses that are often directly linked to pollution in our waterways.
On Clean Up Australia Day, UnderWater World staff and volunteers will be meeting at La Balsa Park on Harbour Parade Buddina at 8am and spreading out along Kawana Beach to help Clean Up Australia.
UnderWater World is calling for members of the public to volunteer on the day and support such a worthwhile cause. Children 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult and have a guardian sign a registration form on their behalf indicating their consent.
UnderWater World organisers encourage everyone to wear appropriate footwear and clothing -- sunglasses, sun protection and water are highly recommended.
If you can't make it on Clean Up Australia Day but would still like to help our marine turtles, drop in to UnderWater World, Mooloolaba and check out our Turtles in Trouble exhibit to discover how you can support this fantastic cause!
