KAWANA LOCALS INVITED TO DISCUSS PUBLIC TRANSPORT WITH SHADOW MINISTER
MEMBER for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie is hosting a Public Transport forum and encourages local residents to attend and discuss all things relating to public transport.
Residents will have the opportunity to discuss issues of concern with Shadow Minister for Transport, Multicultural Affairs and the Arts, Scott Emerson MP.
Mr Bleijie said that it is important to consider these issues now when planning for the future transport needs of the Kawana community.
"With the development planned in Kawana over the next ten years, it is vital that transport planning is a part of this development," Mr Bleijie said.
"The last thing that local residents want to see is their standard of living decline, all because of poor planning and a lack of vision.
"The Sunshine Coast University Hospital, Ramsay Health Private Hospital, Kawana Town Centre, Bokarina Beach, Birtinya Island and Brightwater developments will see thousands of additional residents living and working in Kawana.
"It is vital that we plan the transport needs of our community now, so that Kawana doesn't become one big bottleneck.
"Public transport will be a major element of planning for the future transport needs of our community.
"This forum will follow on from the Coast Connect forum that I hosted in April this year.
"Coast Connect will be one of the issues up for discussion.
"The others will include light rail, CAMCOS, the Multi-Modal Transport Corridor and bus services.
"As a region, patronage of bus services is around 1% of the Coast's population, so it is vital that governments listen to the needs of the community when operational planning these services is undertaken.
"Community consultation is a major part of my job as the local MP, so hosting these forums is important in engaging the community about local issues.
"The forum will run for an hour, so if you would like to attend please register with my office on (07) 5478 1189," Mr Bleijie said.
