Queensland Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Jarrod Bleijie will be guest speaker at a Languages Education Forum to be held at the University of the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday 19 November.
USC Lecturer in Education Dr Peter Grainger said the forum would allow local teachers, principals and academics, as well as USC Education students, to get the latest information on the Queensland Government’s ‘Global Schools’ initiative.
Dr Grainger said he was pleased to have the Member for Kawana, who was schooled on the Coast, discussing the Department of Education Training and Employment initiative to revitalise the teaching of languages across the state.
The consultation draft for ‘Global Schools – Creating successful global citizens’ states it will be “the foundation for a globally connected future for all Queenslanders, with 100 percent of state schools offering languages from Prep by 2025”.
Dr Grainger said the initiative was exciting because of the diverse social, economic and cultural benefits of students learning languages other than English.
He said a question and answer session would be held at the end of the forum. The monthly series was recently started by USC and the Modern Language Teachers’ Association of Queensland.
