LAUGHTER and LATTE, A NIGHT WITH IAN AUSTIN
It's that time of year again when Bats theatre treat their audiences to a feast of comedy, coffee and cake when they present their increasingly popular 'laughter and latte' season in March. This year marks a very special occasion as Bats pays tribute to a very well known theatrical identity, Ian Austin.
The three plays are all penned by the internationally acclaimed playwright and the night has been dedicated as a thankyou to Ian for presenting Bats theatre with a hard copy of his complete works Ian has decades of professional experience as a stage and television writer as well as actor. He spent most of the seventies working as a drama writer for Reg Grundy productions before going freelance.
The three plays to be performed include two comedies and a thriller with three bright and energetic new directors,(David Nielson, Tahnay Viles and Siobahn Harahan) at the helm. As David has just been accepted into Sydney performing arts ocuse, Jacqui Mater Luque will take over the reins for the remainder of the rehearsal period.
'Elizabeth the third' is a hilarious comedy of errors about three generations of feminine "gentry" who line up to make a good impression when a rich Aunt Elizabeth is discovered vying to win themselves a place in her will. When three Elizabeths arrive, chaotic mayhem reins as the social-climbing family disintegrate into frustrated confusion and turmoil. The experienced cast includes Evalee Sharples, Jan Meade, Naomi Craddock, Nerryl Hagenbach, Alice Rea with newcomer Sian O'Callaghan
'Dishing the Dirt' another great comedy with long time Bats member Susie Pritchard, Susan Brown and Julie.
'Dilemma' is a mystery thriller that sees a romantic evening for a newlywed couple interrupted by an old neighbour who claims she is being threatened by a dangerous man. The bewildered couple are faced with the dilemma as to whether to believe the apparently delusional woman or not. An unexpected climax resulting in a dramatic ending transpires. Mary Newton, Bruce Olive, Jessica and Daniel comprise the cast
