Festival of Thought 2016

Moderator: Gail Forrer, Seniors Newspaper Group

What is it that allows a book to resonate with its readers? Plot, character, location, style?

No doubt it is some combination of all of the above. In our local author’s forum, three of SE Queensland’s talented authors will give us their thoughts on the importance of ‘place’ in their writing.

Join Annah Faulkner, Susan Johnson and Inga Simpson for this conversation as they discuss influence of their own locations in the development of settings and subject matter.

There is certain to be some fascinating author insights into their writings.

Annah Faulkner
Annah Faulkner’s debut novel, The Beloved, won the Kibble Literary Award, the Queensland Premier’s Literary Award for an Emerging Queensland Author, and was shortlisted for the 2013 Miles Franklin Award. Last Day in the Dynamite Factory is her second novel.

Susan Johnson
Susan Johnson’s novel The Landing observes what it is to be human and to love: the betrayals, the long and the short alliances, the disappointments and the joys. In 2010, Susan returned from ten years in London and is a feature writer at Q weekend magazine.

Inga Simpson
Inga Simpson began her career as a professional writer for government before gaining a PhD in creative writing. Her first novel Mr Wigg was followed by Nest in 2014, subsequently long listed for the 2015 Miles Franklin Award. Her new work is Where the Trees Were.
