Locals encouraged to attend Mooloolaba Spit options workshop
Local residents and business owners are encouraged to attend the second round of community workshops for the Mooloolaba Spit Futures Study.
Natural Resources and Mines Minister Henry Palaszczuk said the study was entering a new phase.
"People who attend this workshop will see a presentation on the economic, environmental and social analysis of the options for the Spit that were drafted at the previous workshops in September," Mr Palaszczuk said.
"An important milestone was achieved when the vision for the future of the Spit was developed at the first workshops."
"The vision is to preserve the unique and fragile environmental characteristics of the Spit for present and future generations and to achieve a balance between diverse competing uses."
"The vision also aims to maintain safe boating for the maritime industry, recreational uses and operators and a safe beach and parkland environment for residents and visitors."
The Mayor of Maroochy Shire, Councillor Joe Natoli said about 150 residents, business owners, environmental groups, government departments and community groups had attended the previous workshops in September.
"They helped to confirm the key issues to be addressed in the study and identified improvements for the Spit," Cr Natoli said.
Cr Natoli said the input of local residents, businesses and interest groups had been extremely important and applauded some of the ideas put forward at the meetings.
The State Government and Maroochy Shire Council are committed to working with the community and interested parties to create a planned future for the Spit.
