In August we celebrate Family History Week with free workshops to help you discover your ancestors and their stories. Children's Bookweek will be celebrated with a cruise down the river with a crew of library pirates singing, dancing and telling tales to children. Discover the Middle Eastern Cultural Connection with a bellydancing workshop and listen to author Libby Urban tell the amazing story based on her father's life 'Eye of the camel'.

What's On at Noosa Library in August?

Cultural Connection @ Noosa Library
Noosa Council Library has been successful in obtaining grant funding from Multicultural Affairs of Queensland to contribute to delivering a multicultural program in 2008.  Noosa Council Library will promote languages and cultural diversity in the Noosa region through a 12 month workshop program: Cultural Connection @ Noosa Library. The program will represent all continents and highlight a different culture on a significant date each month including Bastille Day to promote French culture, Carnevale to promote Italian culture etc.  The program will include workshops on food, dance, bi-lingual storytelling, language, conversation classes, music and art, as well as displays to promote each culture and multicultural services.

What's On at Noosa Library in August?

REGULAR STORY TELLING & YOUTH EVENTS

Story Telling: Tuesdays: August 5th, 12th & 26th. 10 - 11am.  For under 5's.

Wriggle Giggle Read: Thursday's 7th, 14th, 21st & 29 August at 10am for children aged 12 months to 2.5 yrs. Stories and songs to capture young imaginations. 

Babes in Arms: Wednesday 6th & 13th August from 10 to 10:45am. Aimed at parents and caregivers with babies under 12 months.

Battle Games @ Noosa for kids over 10 yrs. Every Saturday in the Noosa Library meeting room from 11am to 2.30pm. Come along and you will find the armies of Warhammer - Skaven, Elves, Space Marines or Lizardmen strategically battle each other.  B.Y.O Armies and game books.  Contact Young People's Services for more info.

Children's Book Week
Celebrate Book Week 2008 by joining the Captain No-beard and his Library Crew for a swashbuckling cruise down the river on the Noosa River Ferry.  The cruise includes sea shanties, stories of lost treasures and pirate humour!

BRANCH OUT! INTRODUCTION TO FAMILY HISTORY
Always wanted to find out more about your family history?  Join our family history experts for an introductory presentation on searching for your ancestors and discovering their stories.  Get tips on how to get started with print and on-line resources and learn the 'Golden rules of Genealogy'.
Presented in conjunction with Cooroy-Noosa Genealogical and Historical Society, this workshop will launch you into one of the most popular pastimes in the world.

Bring your problem, big or small, to our workshop and ask members of the Cooroy-Noosa Genealogical and Historical Society what to try or where to go next and see if you can shake some of those bricks loose.

Celebrating Seniors Week
Noosa Library has been successful in obtaining grant funding from the Department of Communities to deliver a seniors week event called 'A Taste of Belonging'.

'A Taste of Belonging' is an expo that will provide older people with a 'taste' of what it would be like to belong to any of the clubs in the Noosa region.  This expo will include displays and snapshot sessions on the many different clubs and groups in the Noosa region and will enable attendees to interact with group members and learn more about them and what they do.

Featuring Middle Eastern dancing and author Libby Urbahn.  'Eye of the camel' is the amazing story of a Palestinian policeman caught up in international politics in the years leading to the creation of the State of Israel.
