A UK tribal carpet expert will share his unforgettable stories from living and travelling with tribes as they moved over the lands they have travelled for centuries, when he speaks at the next ADFAS Noosa meeting.
Brian MacDonald will provide a fascinating insight into the woven art of nomadic tribes of Iran and Afghanistan produced on basic ground looms and the hunt for their exquisite 19th century rugs – now very hard to find, even amongst the tribes. He will give his lecture on Saturday 21 October to ADFAS Noosa members.
For many years, Brian has been dealing in 19th century tribal weavings. He has travelled extensively throughout Iran, Afghanistan and Turkey and spent some time living and working with two tribal groups in Iran, making him one of the very few world carpet dealers to have spent ‘time in the field’. In 1990, Brian was elected a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society for his work amongst the Persian nomads. He also lectures and consults. Brian’s book Tribal Rugs – Treasures of the Black Tent was first published in October 1997 and is now in its 3rd up-dated re-print.
